You can easily download a map (or pick one up at the Information Center, Admissions Office, or Reynold's Club) to keep in your pocket during your visit.
Flying to Chicago
Both the Midway and O’Hare International Airports serve the City of Chicago. Although both offer access by train, bus, and shuttle into downtown Chicago, Midway is substantially closer to campus. O'Hare is about 45 minutes by car/taxi and 80 minutes by public transportation to campus.

MIDWAY: Take a taxi from the taxi line, or the 55 CTA bus to campus. Midway is 25 minutes by car/taxi and 50 minutes by public transportation.
O'HARE: Take a taxi from the taxi line, or the Blue CTA train line to downtown Chicago, and transfer to the 6, X28, or 2 bus on State street. See below.
Driving to Campus

Street parking is available all around campus, but the preferred visitors' garages are located at 55th Street & Ellis Avenue and Drexel Avenue & 61st Street. Parking in the garages ranges from $4 for an hour, to $20 for 4+ hours; however, parking is a flat $4 for parking after 4:00 pm and on weekends.
Please note that parking in the Drexel Avenue garage is restricted to permt holders only between the hours of 5:00AM and 9:00AM.

Bus Routes from Downtown to Campus
BUS TRACKER: Use Transloc to find where the 6, 2, 192, and other buses are.
CTA #6 Jackson Park Express bus travels regularly from downtown Chicago to Hyde Park. Catch the bus southbound along State Street in the Loop. Get off at 55th, 57th, or 59th Street (and Hyde Park Blvd), walk under the train tracks, and continue west to campus. Fare $2.25, estimated ride time: 30 minutes.
CTA #2 Hyde Park Express bus travels between State Street downtown and campus during morning and evening rush hours. The #2 Hyde Park Express stops along Hyde Park Blvd (51st Street), and along Cottage Grove (60th Street). Fare $2.25, estimated ride time: 25 minutes.
CTA #192 U of C Hospitals Express bus travels from the Ogilvie and Union Stations downtown to tbe campus and the University of Chicago Medical Center in the mornings. In the evenings, this route is reversed, traveling from the Medical Center to the Ogilvie and Union Stations.

Metra Train from downtown to campus
Metra Electic District Line can be boarded downtown at the Millenium Park, Van Buren Street, or Museum Campus stations to ride down to campus. Disembark at the 55-56-57th Street or 59th Street Stations, then turn right to walk west to campus. Be sure to check the schedule, as the train is very punctual, but may not always be frequent. The fare is about $3.00.

Bus Routes Around Campus
CTA routes #170, #171, and #172 serve campus and the surrounding neighborhood. These buses take the usual fare of $2.25. Students, staff, and faculty may show their Chicago Cards to ride these CTA routes free of charge. At this time, the UChicago evening campus buses are available only to current students, staff, and faculty.

Taxis & Shuttles
Standard Taxis are easy to book. Place a time order or ASAP order online, or text your pick-up address to (312) TAXICAB. A coordinator will call back within a few minutes with a confirmation and ETA.
Chicago Private Car must be booked in advance, either online or by calling (773) 594-9021. The services offers discreet black sedans, guaranteed punctuality, and fare rates. Rates are usually about 15% higher than standard taxis.
Uber Private Car and Taxi is a new booking service, allowing customers to book and pay from their smartphone app, so they do not have to carry cash. You may book taxis or private cars from this service.
Omega Shuttle Service offers transportation from Hyde Park to Chicago’s Midway and O’Hare Airports.
The Hilton Chicago, our preferred hotel downtown, offers a complimentary shuttle service to campus, and can make arrangements for shuttles from the hotel to local airports.
Although most taxi drivers will know where to go when you say "University of Chicago," you may want to provide one of these following key addresses: Admissions Office at 1101 E 58th St; Administration Office and Information Center at 5801 S Ellis Ave; Ida Noyes Hall at 1212 E 59th Ave.
Bicycling is a favorite means of transportation around campus for everyone from Dean of the College John Boyer to Janet Rowley, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. Visitors will enjoy exploring campus, or riding along Lakeshore Drive to downtown or Indiana.
The Bike Center at 53rd and Lakepark allows for rentals, repairs, bike parking, as well as showers and lockers. You can find more information about bike tours and rentals on the Explore Chicago website.
All CTA buses are equipped with bike racks, and Metra allows bikes on trains with some limitations.
